Last month the County Council asked for suggestions for improvements to cycle routes to be funded by a £6.8 million “Emergency Active Travel Fund”. One of the routes that I suggested was to link Great Ashby to the Stevenage cycle network.
Unfortunately the government said that the money was only available for cycle routes to be built at the sides of roads by narrowing the road. The Great Ashby proposal didn’t meet those criteria so it is not one of those that has been submitted for funding.
I am promised that it (along with others that didn’t meet the government’s rules) will be kept on a list. Apparently there may be more money from the government later with different rules attached.
I will keep up the pressure for it to be included in the future.
