North Herts Council is planning to reduce the number of litter bins in towns and villages, but they won’t tell anyone which ones are going to disappear. In some places it could be nearly half of the current bins. If it’s more than 30% they have written to the parish, town or community council to say this but without revealing which bins are affected or even the number.
Where the proportion is less than 30% they are not even doing this, so some places could see nearly a third of their public bins just disappear with no notice at all.
The council has not told District Councillors which bins are affected either, despite promising to consult before any thing was done.
Steve Jarvis said, “They don’t appear to be answering the key question that parish, town and community councils and local residents will have – which bins are they going to remove. Also, why does a parish not get notified unless 30% are being removed? If the plan is to annoy as many people as possible, this is a good way to go about it.”
