Back in 2020 Herts County Council consulted people on whether 20mph speed limits should be allowed only where existing speeds were 25mph or less. After the consultation was over the council decided to change the policy to only allow 20mph limits where the existing speed is 24mph – only 1 mph difference, but one that will prevent many roads from meeting the criteria.
Today we have discovered that this change was made by the Conservative cabinet member for highways – just because he thought it would be a good idea, and ignoring the consultation.
Is it any wonder that the people think that Herts County Council doesn’t listen to them?
