Unfortunately the building of some traffic calming islands at West End, Ashwell has been slightly delayed. The work, which I have arranged to be funded from the Highways Locality Budget, was originally scheduled for March, then brought forward to February but has now been delayed until May.

Apparently the problem was caused by delays in the delivery of the street lamp columns that are to be installed as part of the scheme. This meant that the work lost its “slot” and the next available one is in May. These “slots” are intended to ensure that different sets of road works don’t conflict with one another – avoiding one set of road works closing the diversion route for another.

Although it is disappointing that it will now be another three months before the work is done it should still help to reduce traffic speeds coming into the village and make it safer for people walking on the very narrow section of pavement before too much longer.
