Community and residents groups (as well as schools and Parish Councils) can apply to the County Council for bags of salt to be spread on local roads and footpaths during icy weather. The salt can only be used on public roads and paths, not on private property.
The County Council does this to help local people deal with snow and ice in areas that the council’s gritting lorries don’t go to.
