Go ahead for A507 weight limit

by stevejarvis on 12 February, 2019

Herts County Council’s Highways Panel has agreed that there should be a 7.5 tonne weight limit on the A507 between Baldock and the Radwell services and through the village of Cottered. This should cut the number of lorries using the A507 as a through route and hopefully cut the number that hit the railway bridge in Baldock.

These short weight limits have been agreed, rather than the end to end limit originally proposed for the A507 since they are easier to enforce and should be more effective.

It has been agreed that a weight limit should also be introduced on Baldock Road in Royston to ensure that Baldock Road, Baldock Street and Melbourn Street are not used by lorries using the A505 rather than the A507. The exact location of this is still to be agreed but it is also likely to be a short section to ease enforcement.
