Herts County Council has abandoned a plan to reduce the number of roads gritted when bad weather is expected – at least for this year – after a petition against the changes run by the Lib Dems.
The council had agreed new criteria for the roads gritted but then failed to select the roads correctly. They also failed to tell the contractor who does the work of the changes in time for them to be introduced by the start of the gritting season.
They have now said that the changes – which would have included not gritting Maiden Street in Weston, the road to Halls Green and Luffenhall and the road from Mill End to Rushden and Southern Green – will not be introduced until next winter.
